Corrections and Changes
We don't quietly rewrite the record.
When we get a fact wrong, the claim is marked retracted or superseded, a dated correction says what we said, what's true, and whether it changed our assessment, and the original stays visible at its permanent link. If the error affected a Watch's level or reader action, subscribers get an email.
When our assessment changes, the old one stays in the change log. Being less worried today than yesterday is not a correction. It's an update, and we say what evidence moved us.
When someone else changes their story, we keep both versions. If an official body describes something one way on Monday and another way on Tuesday, both statements remain in the ledger with their dates. The later one doesn't overwrite the earlier one, and it isn't treated as true just because it's newer.
When a post is deleted or edited, we log it as an observation: what changed, when, and how we know. A deletion isn't proof of a cover-up, and it isn't proof that the deleted post was right.
Every Watch has a change log with two kinds of entry. Editorial entries change what you'd read: a claim, the level, the reader action, the assessment, a correction. Housekeeping entries don't: a refreshed review time, a layout fix, a site rebuild. Housekeeping is listed for completeness and collapsed by default.
Found an error? Email [email protected] with the Watch, the claim ID (it looks like w001-c018) and what you think is wrong. Evidence helps more than confidence.
